Frequently asked questions

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding portrait services

* What does a session involve?   A session involves up to two hours at the location of your choice.  We will take shots in a variety of poses and groupings.  You are free to bring as many changes of outfit as you like.

* Do you work with children?   I actually get far more enjoyment out of working with children than with adults.  Children don’t have many of the self-image issues that we as adults have.  Because of that they are far more likely to provide a true image of themselves, and create a treasured image in the process.

* What about “difficult” children?  Unlike most chain studios, I am willing to take time getting to know your child.  There is no need to rush a child into canned poses.  If the child is not happy having their picture taken, it will never turn out well.  I am willing to take the time to interact with your child, tell them a story, play a game, make funny faces, basically to do whatever it takes to make the session enjoyable for your child.  It is only then that it is possible to capture great photographs.

* Do you shoot in a studio?   Generally, I do not.  I prefer to shoot in a location such as a park, beach, or even your backyard.  Places where the subjects are more comfortable, rather than in a studio filled with lights and other equipment.  If “studio” shots are desired, they can be created in any of the above locations as well.  Children especially do much better in familiar surroundings.  In my portraits I try to capture subjects in natural settings, rather than against the same tired, overused backdrops.

* What about blemishes?  All prints are re-touched for blemishes or other features that you may want to have corrected.

* My child has braces and refuses to smile, what can be done?  Many of the greatest photographs have subjects that aren’t smiling.  It isn’t necessary to show the teeth to create a wonderful image.

* Why shouldn’t I go to Walmart for portraits, they are so much less expensive?  Chain studios make their money on volume, not quality.  If you are interested in using the same backdrops, poses, and lighting that the 200 families before you used, then by all means feel free to go to a chain studio.  If you wish to have a one-of-a –kind work of art that you will treasure forever, seek out a professional photographer that can provide personalized service for you.  The professional will be glad to take more than five minutes to take your portrait, and won’t be in such a rush to move you along so the next customer can come in.  Besides, when is the last time you met the Walmart photographer at the beach for sunrise portraits?
